Margela created special collections touching the themes of freedom, intellect, self-irony, not adhering to the strict European cut patterns. He continued the work begun by Japanese designers - Yoji Yamamoto, Ray Kawakubo - with the transformation of forms and textures of fabrics: changed silhouettes, stitched out seams, aged materials, sewed asymmetric jackets and dresses. He managed to turn his experiment into a trend, he perfectly mastered the technique of cutting: the images looked extravagant, but harmonious. The press talked about him as the founder of the destroyfashion style but the designer replied that he never sought to destroy when he cut and remade things but wanted to give them life in a new form. Margela also came up with printing a number in a circle on a white field, from “0” to “23”, which marked the brand’s lines. Today, a group of designers is working under the brand MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA. For twenty years, the house remains one of the most influential. Brand collections were inspired by MARC JACOBS, HERMÈS and PRADA. Azzedin Alai once admitted: “Now there are no real talents left with that special unique vision. The last one is Margela. ”
