For more than a hundred years the Italian brand not only releases clothes collections
but also promotes its own lifestyle ideology and sublime lifestyle. The brand's logo is
unquestionably the all-time symbol of success, prosperity and luxury. The brand owes
its success to Miuccia Prada, the granddaughter of the company founder who managed
to change the brand from a well-known to the most affluent one.
The history of PRADA starts in 1913 when the brothers Mario and Martino Prada
opened their Fratelli Prada shop that sold elegant travel bags made from exotic walrus
skin. In 1958 Mario's daughter Luisa took up the directing position. In the seventies
Prada started to sell their clothes collections across the Europe and America. And in the
eighties the company went to Miuccia Prada, Mario's granddaughter, and her husband
Patrizio Bertelli: this is when the massive expansion began.
The first women's collection debuted in Milan, 1989, the shapes were elegant and
simple. In 1992 the company introduced a new brand for young people, Miu Miu, and
launched a sunglass line. In the mid-nineties women's collection was followed by a
men's one, then there were lines of accessories, perfume, shoes and furniture.
Perfectly tailored collections with outstanding design and memorable original prints
forced all the critics to accept the greatness of PRADA. The company is still riding on
progress and works on dozens of projects simultaneously, for example, in collaboration
with car and high-tech companies. There is a cultural foundation working under PRADA
name that supports significant projects.
